Death toll from Turkey-Syria earthquakes nears 20,000 as Many Injured.

At least 19,863 have been confirmed dead from the devastating earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria according to authorities.

In Turkey, the death toll has risen to at least 16,546, with 66,132 others reported injured, according to Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday.

The total number of deaths in Syria climbs to at least 3,317, including 1,970 in rebel-held areas in the northwest, according to the White Helmets civil defense group. Another 1,347 deaths have been reported in government-controlled parts of Syria, according to Syrian state media.

The total number of injured people in Syria across all affected territories rose to 5,245 (2,295 in government-controlled and 2,950 in rebel-held areas).

At least 71,377 people have been injured in Syria and Turkey, according to figures from the Turkish government, the White Helmets and Syrian state media.

On 6 February 2023, a catastrophic and deadly series of earthquakes struck southern and central Turkey and parts of northern Syria, It occurred 34 km (21 mi) west of the city of Gaziantep at 04:17 TRT (01:17 UTC), causing widespread damage and tens of thousands of fatalities in the region.

the main earthquake is tied with the 1939 Erzincan earthquake as the strongest recorded earthquake to hit Turkey in modern times one of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded in the Levant and is the deadliest earthquake globally since  2010 Haiti earthquake that caused structural damage as far as Israel, Lebanon and Cyprus.

This earthquake was followed by numerous aftershocks.
