England 2-1 Italy: Kane Breaks Record in 10-Man Victory against Italy in Euro Qualifier

England secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Italy in their Euro 2024 qualifying match, with captain Harry Kane breaking a record in the process. Despite playing with 10 men for the majority of the game, England showed their fighting spirit as they battled to secure the win.

 Kane's goal not only helped secure the victory, but also saw him become the highest scorer in England's history, breaking the record previously held by Wayne Rooney.

Harry Kane broke Wayne Rooney's national team scoring record and England held on for a 2-1 win at Italy since 1961on the opening night of European Championship qualifying on Thursday.

Kane wrote his name into the history books in the 44th minute when he beat Gianluigi Donnarumma from the penalty spot for his 54th goal, overtaking previous

England's first-half display was consummate in its control but there drop-in performance was compounded by Luke Shaw's second yellow card with 10 minutes left but they hung on for a vital win.

The defender picked up the first of his two yellow cards in the 78th minute for time-wasting when preparing to take a throw-in and the second came just two minutes later for a mis-timed challenged on Retegui.

Italy, however, lacked the quality to make England pay the price and in the end their Euro 2024 campaign got off to the ideal start.

The victory puts England in a strong position in their qualifying group, and the team will be looking to build on this result as they continue their quest to qualify for the tournament.

England now has the chance to build on these three points when they face Ukraine at Wembley on Sunday.
