The celebrated Ugandan singer known professionally as Evelyn Nakabira, has left an indelible mark on the world of music and artistry. It is with profound sadness that we share the news of her passing, which occurred this morning after a long and courageous battle with multiple chronic illnesses.

She has sung backup vocals for (the late) Carol Nakimera, Halima Namakula, Ragga Dee, Makoma, and Mampi from Zambia. She has also played with the Mustard and Flash bands.
Evelyn Nakabira was born on June 1, 1982, in the Kalungu District. Her parents died when she was young, so she never got to know her dad.


Evelyn Lagu moved to Mityana to live with her aunt, who was a midwife, and her husband after her parents died. The late Evelyn Lagu went to Aga Khan, Mityana SS, and Pride SS Mityana for her O' Level education, and then to St. Peter's Busubizi for her A' Level education, which she finished in 1999.
Evelyn Lagu's journey in the music industry was nothing short of remarkable. She possessed a voice that could move mountains and lyrics that resonated with the hearts of millions. Her music transcended borders, touching the souls of people in Uganda.
She released her Ogumanga and  Mbulila hits in 2017,Kasita Bakuleka 2018 Mbeerawo 2017Sikyatya 2020 Ngukuwade 2017 among others.
Her first gospel song was called "Testimony. In 2020.
This happened after she left Nakasero Hospital, where she had been staying. Evelyn Lagu was glad that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni paid for her medical care.
Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, who runs events, pushed the President to pay for Evelyn Lagu's medical bills. 
Evelyn Nakabira Lagu had problems with her kidneys  and she needed a new kidney and in the middle of 2020, she gave her life to God and started making gospel music as a way to thank the Almighty God for saving her life.


Her first gospel song was called "Testimony."
This happened after she left Nakasero Hospital, where she had been staying. Evelyn Lagu was glad that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni paid for her medical care.


Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, who runs events, pushed the President to pay for Evelyn Lagu's medical bills. Evelyn Lagu went to Aga Khan, Mityana SS, and Pride SS Mityana for her O' Levels, and she finished her A' Levels at St. Peter's Busubizi in 1999.


Several years ago, Ms. Lagu was diagnosed with chronic kidney and heart complications, which necessitated frequent hospital visits.


In an effort to save her life, well-wishers generously donated millions of shillings to fund a kidney transplant in Turkey. However, due to her precarious health condition, doctors advised against the procedure, citing her inability to withstand it.


Prior to her passing, she had been actively promoting her upcoming charity concert, the "Evelyn Love Charity Concert," scheduled to take place on October 28, 2023, at Papaz Spot in Makindye.
