In a heart-pounding display of athleticism, Cheptegei surged ahead with a devastating last lap to clinch his third successive gold in the grueling 10,000 meters race.

Cheptegei who holds the world record in the 5000m and 10,000m had to overcome an injury-hit year to hit his top form as he broke clear of his competitors with a fired-up 53-second last lap to come home in 27:51.42.
Cheptegei was followed up by Kenyan’s Daniel Simiu Ebenyo who took home silver while Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega settled for bronze.
