Uganda Makes Olympic History: Shamira Nabadda Selected as Referee for 2024 Paris Summer Games

In an effort to highlight the region's rising importance in international football refereeing, FIFA has chosen four referees from the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) region to officiate at the prestigious 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Shamira Nabadda, a trailblazing female referee from Uganda who represents a major turning point for women in Ugandan and African football in general, is one of these exceptional officials.

The declaration was made via a statement that was shared on the CECAFA Facebook page, reiterating FIFA's choice to provide the area such a significant duty.

“FIFA has appointed four referees from the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) region to officiate at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics,” a statement from CECAFA read.

Together with Nabadda, the esteemed panel of referees includes Ismail Mahmood Ali of Sudan, Ahmed Liban Abdoulrazack of Djibouti, and Stephen Yiembe of Kenya. Together, they comprise a varied group of skilled officials prepared to preserve the integrity of fair play during the international competition.

The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, are set to feature 32 sports, including football, and are expected to be an exciting global celebration of athleticism and sportsmanship from July 26th  to August 11th 2024.
