Kisoro Woman MP By-Election: A Closer Look at the Six Candidates Nominated for November Race
This by-election follows the recent resignation of the former incumbent, Ms. Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, leaving a significant gap in representation that each candidate hopes to fill.
As Kisoro District heads towards a highly anticipated by-election for the Woman MP seat, six candidates have officially been cleared to compete for voters' support on November 14.
This by-election follows the recent resignation of the former incumbent, Ms. Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, leaving a significant gap in representation that each candidate hopes to fill.
With the nominations finalized by Kisoro District Electoral Commission Returning Officer, Mr. Daniel Nayebare, the race is now on as these candidates embark on their campaigns to win over the people of Kisoro.
Here's a closer look at the six individuals vying for this important role and what each brings to the table.
ROSE KABAGYENYI (NRM)
Born on August 4, 1974, Rose Kabagyenyi (occasionally spelled Rose Kabagyeni) is a politician and former female member of parliament from Uganda. From 2016 until 2021, she served as the Kisoro District's female Member of Parliament (MP).[1] She served as Uganda's Senior Presidential Advisor on Agriculture until 2022
She belongs to the National Resistance Movement, which is currently in power
MS AKIFEZA GRACE NGABIRANO (INDEPENDENT)
Grace Akifeza narrowly lost the NRM primaries to Rose Kabagyeni in the NRM primaries, but she remained determined and chose to run for office again on an independent ticket.
Born in Matinza Village, Nyakabande Sub-county, Kisoro District, Ngabirano began her education at Matinza Primary School, attended Seseme Girls Secondary School, and later earned a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from Nairobi University.
ZUBEDI SULTANA SALIM (NUP)
Zubedi Sultana Salim, who is running for Kisoro District Woman MP on behalf of the National Unity Platform (NUP) is well-known for her commitment to women's rights and grassroots activism.
Her initiative aims to empower local communities and advance equitable opportunities throughout the region.
As a NUP member, she shares the party's commitment to responsibility and reform, hoping to infuse Kisoro's leadership with new ideas. Her supporters think she has the potential to be a voice that changes things by pushing for women and other underprivileged groups to have better access to healthcare, education, and economic development.
JULIET MUSANASE (FDC).
In her quest for the Kisoro Woman MP seat, Juliet Musanase, an independent candidate, has allied herself with the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC). Musanase brings experience from that campaign. Musanase, who is well-known for her tenacity and solid ties to the community, intends to use her following and her recent partnership with FDC to reach a wider spectrum of voters. Her campaign has a strong emphasis on social welfare, solidarity, and workable answers to Kisoro's urgent problems, with an emphasis on improving the district's women and young people.
MS CHIMPAYE AISHA (PEOPLE’S PROGRESS PARTY)
The People's Progress Party (PPP) is running Ms. Chimpaye Aisha as a candidate in the next Kisoro Woman MP by-election. Aisha is well-known for her dedication to community empowerment and grassroots development. The main goals of her campaign are to enhance Kisoro District's infrastructure, healthcare, and economic prospects.
MS MABLE INGABIRE (UPC).
Ingabire Mable, has a history in community service and education. After completing her secondary education at Kabale Trinity College, she continued her study at Kabale University. Mable, who is currently living in Kampala, Uganda, where she is also from, applies her education and life experiences to her campaign in an effort to speak to issues that both urban and rural people find important.
Her platform is centered on encouraging sustainable development projects in Kisoro District, expanding educational opportunities, and enhancing local healthcare. Mable is seen by her supporters as a dynamic candidate who has the capacity to unite disparate communities and effect meaningful change.
