Speaker Anita Among Directs Removal of Pioneer Buses from Namboole Stadium Amid CAF Concerns

Amidst growing concerns flagged by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Speaker of Parliament, Ms. Anita Among, has taken a firm stance to uphold the integrity of Uganda's sporting venues. Ms. Among's directive to the State Minister of Sports, Mr. Peter Ogwang, underscores the gravity of the situation at Mandela National Stadium (Namboole). The directive calls for immediate collaboration with stadium management to address the encroachment issue posed by Pioneer buses.

The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, made her directive during today’s visit at the Mandela National Stadium, also known as Namboole Stadium, to inspect the progress of its ongoing renovations.
While commending the efforts of the UPDF Engineering Brigade, Among acknowledged the recent decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to withhold approval of the stadium, citing issues with the renovation work not meeting their required standards.

She demanded a probe of the property lease to Pioneer busses and the amount of Non-Tax Revenue (NTR) that the government received, highlighting the importance of openness.

Among also stressed that the stadium's board must ensure that the land remains dedicated solely to sports activities saying that, “The land that belongs to the stadium should never be used for anything else without a resolution.

Last week, Parliament exerted pressure on Finance State Minister Amos Lugoloobi to disburse the remaining sh17.7bn, essential for the completion of the project, despite the significant progress made with the allocated sh97bn budget.
