Death Toll Soars to 40 as Rebels Unleash Horror on Lhubirira S.S in Kasese

The death count has now surged to a staggering 40 lives lost in the aftermath of the ruthless attack orchestrated by rebels believed to be from the Allied Democratic Front (ADF) on Friday night at Lhubirira Secondary School in Kasese district.

Reports from the scene indicate that 6 are currently admitted at Bwera general hospital in a critical condition and a yet to be identified number of other students have been abducted.

Lt. Maate Magwara the Deputy RDC Kasese in charge of Bukonzo county together with UPDF and Uganda police are now at the scene and a  serious operation in the entire Kasese District has started. 

Police spokesperson CP Fred Enanga had earlier announced that 25 students were killed but the number seems updated as the scene is thoroughly being examined.

“Last night, we registered a terrorist attack by the ADF rebels on Lhubirira Secondary School, in Mpondwe, which is located about 2kms, from the DRC border” said Enanga.

He added that “a dormitory was burnt and a food store looted. So far 25 bodies have been recovered from the school and transferred to Bwera Hospital”.

According to Police, they had earlier recovered 8 victims, who remain in critical condition at Bwera Hospital.

He added that a hot pursuit by the UPDF and the Police was ongoing, towards Virunga National park.

“We do offer our deepest condolences to the families of those who have been killed, and offer our prayers and thoughts to those who have been wounded. More details will be available in due course” he added.

President Museveni, who is also the Commander in Chief of the UPDF has dispatched his wife, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Kataha Museveni to Kasese to assess the situation.
