Uganda’s former Deputy Ambassador to the United States, Mr. Dickson Ogwang Okul, has been arrested and is currently held at Lira Central Police Station following an intense confrontation with local clan leaders. According to reports, the altercation escalated when Mr. Ogwang allegedly drew a pistol during a dispute with members of the Lango clan, leading to his immediate detention by law enforcement.
Ambassador Okul, who is now acting as Charge d' Affaires in Khartoum, was arrested at roughly 1:40 p.m. after storming a meeting at the Lango Cultural Centre with his two bodyguards in the afternoon.

"According to sources, the meeting took a sudden turn when Mr. Ogwang Okul's presence visibly unsettled the clan leaders gathered before him. Initially calm, the atmosphere grew tense as the elderly leaders voiced their objections, with some shouting, 'He must go; Ogwang Okul must not be allowed to attend this meeting.'
Despite attempts by a few conciliatory clan members to calm the situation and persuade him to respect the elders, Mr. Ogwang Okul eventually rose from his seat and began to leave. However, just about 10 meters away from the group, he allegedly drew a pistol and appeared to attempt firing it. At that moment, seven armed police officers swiftly intervened, wrestling him to the ground in a tense struggle that lasted several minutes until they successfully disarmed him, according to an eyewitness present at the meeting."
