Kenya's Army Chief, Francis Ogolla, Dead in Chopper Crash
LT. Gen. Ogolla enlisted in the Kenya Air Force on April 24, 1984, and on May 6, 1985, he received his commission as a second lieutenant.
In a tragic turn of events, the nation of Kenya finds itself gripped by uncertainty and fear as news breaks of the possible demise of one of its highest-ranking military officials, Gen Francis Omondi Ogolla. The Chief of Defence Forces was reportedly aboard a helicopter that crashed near the border of West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.

According to reports from Kenyan media outlets, the helicopter carrying Gen Ogolla and several others crashed and burst into flames in the remote Sindar area.
Since the deadly collision, President William Ruto has convened an urgent meeting of top security officials at State House in Nairobi.
The President, his deputy, the Minister of Defense, the Attorney General, the Chief of Defense Forces, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service, and the Inspector-General of Police make up the National Security Council.
Amidst military alterations, Ogolla was designated as the next Chief of Defence Forces, succeeding General Robert Kibochi.
On April 28, 2023, Kibochi gave Ogolla the reins as CDF after he reached the required retirement age of 62.
LT. Gen. Ogolla enlisted in the Kenya Air Force on April 24, 1984, and on May 6, 1985, he received his commission as a second lieutenant.
In addition to his training as a fighter pilot with the USAF, he is a skilled teacher pilot.
He has also received training in other disciplines, such as accident investigation, counterterrorism, and imagery intelligence.
LT. Gen. Ogolla attended the National Defense College of Kenya and École Militaire de Paris. He graduated with a diploma in military science and international studies from Egerton University, a bachelor's degree in political science with honors in armed conflict and peace studies, and a master's degree in international studies from the University of Nairobi.
He became Commander Kenya and rose to the rank of Major General.
