In a bold and resolute move, Mr. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, better known as Bobi Wine and the principal of Uganda's Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), has declared his intention to defy police guidelines and press forward with his nationwide campaign in two weeks.
This decision comes in direct contradiction to the directives issued by the police earlier this week, which stressed the importance of compliance.

While addressing the media yesterday at NUP headquarters in Kamwokya, Mr Kyagulanyi said police do not have powers to ban the activities of an official political party and therefore he will not and shall never obey any illegal and emotional orders.
Bobi advised the police to subject him to the law if he made sectarian statements.
“As a country, we must address the issues of sectarianism and tribalism. I think it is time for our country to have a frank discussion about tribalism because those who practise and promote tribalism get scared when we come out to condemn it,” Kyagulanyi noted.
“Leaders of this regime are the masters of tribalism, sectarianism and nepotism but they have intimidated every Ugandan not to joke about it. Ugandans should come out and close this debate by exposing tribalism and sectarian tendencies.” He added.
This decision comes in direct contradiction to the directives issued by the police earlier this week as the Spokesperson; SCP Fred Enanga said that the NUP leader should comply with the directive, which suspended the tours following alleged sectarian statements he made in Luweero District last week.
Enanga further noted that the Police are still gathering] the specifics of the various offences that were listed [in the Wednesday police statement released by NUP Leader and they will be provided at the opportune time.
Bobi Wine's decision to proceed with his campaign, despite the risk of potential confrontations with law enforcement, underscores the importance he places on directly connecting with voters and sharing his vision for Uganda's future. His defiance reflects a broader sentiment among his supporters who believe that change is long overdue in Uganda's political landscape.
As the two-week countdown to his campaign launch begins, all eyes will be on Bobi Wine and the NUP, as they continue to challenge the status quo and navigate the complex terrain of Ugandan politics. The outcome of this showdown with the police will not only impact Bobi Wine's campaign but also shape the future of Uganda's political landscape as a whole.
