Buganda Kingdom Sues TikToker Musana Ibrahim for Hate Speech against Kabaka
"We wish to clarify that the complaint and efforts to hold the offender accountable were initiated by the kingdom, and we sincerely appreciate the support of all concerned Ugandans who joined in the pursuit of Musana Ibrahim, now in custody," said Kitooke.
Buganda Kingdom filed a formal complaint at the CID Headquarters in Kibuli concerning hate speech against a one Musana Ibrahim who is a Tik Toker aimed at Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
"The Kingdom of Buganda lodged a formal complaint at CID Headquarters in Kibuli on February 13, 2024. Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, the kingdom's spokesperson, stated on Monday that the complaint addresses the misuse of social media, spread of malicious information, and hate speech directed at the Kabaka of Buganda, the Akatikkiro, and their loyal followers."

Kazibwe asserted that the circulating TikTok videos were derogatory and baseless, specifically targeting the Kabaka, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, and other high-ranking kingdom officials.
"We wish to clarify that the complaint and efforts to hold the offender accountable were initiated by the kingdom, and we sincerely appreciate the support of all concerned Ugandans who joined in the pursuit of Musana Ibrahim, now in custody," said Kitooke.
Following Buganda's complaint, Kazibwe noted that the individual responsible for the videos was apprehended by the police and is presently in custody. Nonetheless, the Buganda spokesperson highlighted a surge in attacks against the kingdom, emphasizing the need for such actions to cease.
"We have observed a disturbing increase in fake and misleading publications and misinformation circulated by certain social media users, which ridicule and offend our cultural values and norms. These publications also propagate hostility, tribalism, racism, and hate speech. Such actions are not only morally wrong but also legally actionable, as they disrupt peace and order in society," he stated.
He said the kingdom aims to address the growing prevalence of fake and misleading publications that disrespect cultural values and norms, foster hostility, tribalism, racism, and hate speech.
Police also confirmed the arrest of Ibrahim Musana, the individual responsible for the circulating social media videos, on Monday.
Kazibwe urged the general public and loyalists of the Kabaka to remain vigilant and condemn such acts of impunity. It emphasizes that these actions not only undermine the Kabaka but also the institution of Kabakaship, as well as the cultural rights and allegiance of its subjects and citizens.
"As demonstrated in this matter, the populace and all individuals who pledge allegiance to the Kabaka should continue to act with vigilance and vehemently condemn such acts of impunity. These actions undermine not only the Kabaka but also the Institution of Kabakaship, as well as the subjects and citizens who exercise their constitutional cultural rights and loyalty to the Kabaka," he emphasised.
