Bugweri Chiefdom Issues Apology to Speaker Anita Among Over NUP Deputy Spokesperson's Remarks

In a gesture of reconciliation and respect, Bugweri Chiefdom, one of the prominent traditional chiefdoms within the Busoga Kingdom, has taken a step forward by extending a heartfelt apology. The apology is directed towards the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Anita Among, following what has been described as "uncivilized and unruly statements" made by Mr. Waiswa Alex Mufumbiro, the National Unity Platform (NUP) deputy spokesperson.
The clan leaders, led by Mr Mwamadi Mugwisa, the third Katukiro and special envoy to Bugweri's hereditary chief, also requested an audience to express their regrets in person.

On Thursday, April 4, at the burial of Counsel Waiswa Ramathan, a young brother to Bugweri County MP Hon. Abdul Katuntu, at Butende Village in Busesa Town Council, Mufumbiro chastised Ms Among for allegedly involving in corruption and asked her to distance herself from former Speaker Rt. Hon Alitwala Rebecca Kadaga in their parliament wars.
Mufumbiro's comments came after Speaker Among made controversial statements at her marital home in Buyende District last month, implying that 'old women from Kamuli were fighting to return to the speakership office,' which the audience misinterpreted as a reference to Kadaga, the Woman Member of Parliament for Kamuli district.
Waiswa, Bugweri County MP Abdu Katuntu's younger brother, died in an accident on his way home from a court hearing in Soroti.
Mufumbiro described Ms Kadaga as Busoga's mother, in whom the Basoga take great pride, and urged the Speaker to stop speaking negatively about her.

Speaker Among, who was the 'chief mourner' during the funeral in Butende, donated Shs100 million to the construction of the Bugweri Muslim headquarters.
