FDC's Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi Announces 2026 Presidential Bid
“I am not like him (Besigye), who lacks support. I have strong support within my constituency, providing me with a solid foundation to launch my campaign,” Mafabi said.
In a significant development in Ugandan politics, the Secretary General of the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Honorable Nathan Nandala Mafabi who currently represents the Budadiri West Constituency in the 11th Parliament has officially declared his intentions to run for the presidency in the upcoming 2026 elections.
“I will contest for the Presidency of Uganda in 2026, and this is why Besigye has been employing various tactics to impede my efforts.” He slated.
Mafabi alleges that during his bid for Party President against Rtd. Gen. Mugisha Muntu, Besigye failed to provide the support he had promised.
Mafabi said that he believes himself to be a formidable presidential candidate compared to Besigye, who has run for the presidency four times.
“I am not like him (Besigye), who lacks support. I have strong support within my constituency, providing me with a solid foundation to launch my campaign,” Mafabi said.
“Starting from my constituency, I will campaign in the northern, western, and central regions. I am a viable presidential contender.” He added.
The development comes amid internal conflicts brewing within the FDC party mainly cantered around allegations of ‘dirt money rumoured to have been got from the ruling party NRM.
His candidacy brings fresh energy and a new perspective to the political arena, and it is anticipated that his campaign will focus on key issues such as governance reforms, social justice, economic development, and ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process.
