Nobert Mao: Public Order Management Act Regulations to Be Enacted Soon

Nobert Mao, the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, has provided an update on the progress regarding the enactment of regulations to the Public Order Management Act (POMA). According to Mao, the ministry is now in the final stages of this process, indicating that the regulations will soon be put into effect.

During the parliamentary session presided over by Speaker Hon. Anita Among, the Leader of the Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi, voiced his dismay about the Police's mishandling of peaceful demonstrators. The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) was being sued by these protestors, who were former casual employees, for unpaid pay spanning six months.

According to Mao, the most difficult issue that exists at the moment is that there are no regulations pertaining to POMA, which allows police to disperse public gatherings using antiquated laws rather than offering guidelines and restrictions to any well-intentioned demonstrators.
