NUP Women’s Wing Cerebrates Women’s Day at Kavule Headquarters
Their celebrations come days after the international women’s day has been celebrated. International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated annually on March 8th to recognize the social, economic, culture and political achievments of women worlswide. It is a day to celebrate the progress made toward gender equality, to raise awareness about the ongoing struggles for women’s rights, to inspire further action towards a more equitable future.
Natioanal Unity Platform (NUP) has today cerebrated Women’s day with the support of first lady Barbie Kyagulanyi among other distinguished guests at party headquarters Kavule.
“The leadership of the NUP women’s wing organized celebrated our women’s day earlier today at our headquarters in Kavule. We are very grateful to the distinguished guests who took part in the celebrations, notably First Lady Barbie Kyagulanyi , Rt. Hon Winnie Kizza, Mariam Matembe.” The posted statement reads.

While addressing the congregation, the first lady said that NUP believes that women are the fulcrum of the revolution and should take part in every decision and process of the struggle.
“In spite of the very hostile environment, the NUP Women’s League operates with rare courage and devotion to take our struggle forward.” She added.

IWD grew out of the lobar movement in 1908, when 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter working hours, better pay and the right to vote. A year later, the Socialist Party of America declared the first and has become a recognized global event by the United Nations, with millions of people across the world coming together to celebrate, honor and support women National Woman's Day.
