Police Blocks Bobi Wine at Ssezibwa Bridge on His Way to Pallisa

Robert Kyagulanyi, often known as Bobi Wine, the president of the National Unity Platform (NUP), was stopped by riot and regular police on Friday at the Ssezibwa Bridge on the Kayunga-Mukono route, resulting in a standoff. Bobi Wine was traveling to the Pallisa District to hold a mobilization gathering when they intervened.

The former presidential candidate was prevented from entering Kayunga District by armed police using their patrol cars.
Enraged by the barricade, Mr. Kyagulanyi demanded of the police, perched on his white land cruiser, the reason for the obstruction.
The opposition leader was urged by a policeman to "turn and go back where you have come from."

As Mr. Kyagulanyi and his group attempted to drive past the roadblock, a verbal altercation broke out between Mr. Joel Ssenyonyi, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, and Fred Nyanzi, the party's national mobilization coordinator. After a few minutes, Mr. Kyagulanyi and the leaders of the NUP backtracked and made a U-turn.

It was unclear whether they drove back to Kampala or tried other alternative routes to the Eastern Uganda district of Pallisa
Police also staged roadblocks on all the routes leading to Pallisa and subjected all cars entering the district to security checks before proceeding.

At Mpologoma swamp along Mbale-Tirinya road, two NUP supporters were intercepted by police led by Kibuku District Police Commander, Dickens Turyatemba who questioned them before ordering them to go back to where they came from.

“What a cowardly regime! No matter what he does, Gen. Museveni will eventually fall. To you great people of Pallisa who were eagerly waiting for us, we shall soon find a way of reaching you,” Mr Kyagulanyi later posted on his X handle.
