Gabon Reduces Political Terms from Seven to Five in Office
Until now, presidents officially served seven-year terms and senators served six-year terms.
The government of the Republic of Gabon has reduced all political terms in office which will now last five years.
This was announced on Monday by President Ali Bongo who has led the country since his father’s death in 2009.
The announcement came during talks between the government and opposition, which were called to discuss election matters ahead of polls expected later this year.
