The Nigerian entertainment industry yesterday plunged into mourning today as news of the passing of legendary actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, spread across the country. 
The beloved actor, renowned for his comedic talents and larger-than-life performances, had been battling illness for an extended period.

The 62-year-old Nollywood veteran passed away at Evercare Hospital, Nigeria, according to reports from sources close to him.
In October 2023, Mr. Ibu revealed that he was suffering from an ailment that threatened to amputate one of his legs.


He said he was struck by the problem while on a movie set with other Nollywood actors and actresses before appealing to the public for prayers and financial assistance to cover his medical bills.
Mr. Ibu had undergone surgeries. Last year, there was tension on social media after a hoax when he was falsely reported to have breathed his last due to illness.


The news of his passing has left many of his fans grieving. On social media, several messages of condolences to his family and friends have started pouring in.
Mr. Ibu's career spanned decades, during which he became a household name not only in Nigeria but also across Africa and beyond.
