This newly formed political entity has garnered widespread attention and support, notably earning endorsements from over 100 Members of Parliament affiliated with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
Dubbed “Patriotic League of Uganda”, the new political organization’s emblem features Gen Muhoozi’s photo adapted from the now defunct MK Movement with a silhouette of a lion at the right and the name below it.
On Wednesday, the party, retaining its yellow colors as a symbol akin to the ruling NRM, was officially inaugurated at Naguru in Kampala, with Igara East MP, Michael Mawanda, presiding over the launch on behalf of Gen Muhoozi.
Mawanda, who also serves on Muhoozi’s Central Committee, disclosed that they have shifted from being a pressure group advocating for Muhoozi's presidency to becoming a civic organization.
“We hereby constitute ourselves into a civic organization and assume and adopt a new name and identity, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), which is the main aim of working towards receiving Ugandans, in a spirit of God citizenship national pride, national service, protection of persons, combating corruption and wastage of public services and protection of the environment,” Mr Mawanda stated.
It should be noted that the MK Movement has not directly transitioned into a political party but has instead rebranded into a civic organization. However, there is a possibility that it may evolve into a political party as the election season approaches.
Over the past two years, the First Son has utilized the MK Movement as a platform to orchestrate political rallies, personally greeting attendees, while his supporters fervently rally political support for him. It's worth noting that as a serving army officer, he is prohibited from engaging in active political activities, yet his involvement persists.
