Kaabong NUP Chairman Mistakenly Shot by Security Forces in Suspected Cattle Rustlers' Pursuit

Ambrose Lochoto, the National Unity Platform (NUP) chairman for Kaabong District, met an untimely demise after being shot by security forces during what they believed to be a pursuit of suspected cattle rustlers in Kakamar sub-county, Kaabong Town Council. 
However, the circumstances took a devastating turn as Lochoto, who was not involved in any criminal activity, became a victim of mistaken identity.

Ambrose Lochoto, 30, is said to have been shot dead by security forces who were tracking suspected cattle rustlers in Kakamar sub-county, Kaabong Town Council late on Sunday night.
The Karamoja Region Police Spokesperson, Mr Michael Longole, however, says he was mistakenly shot dead by joint security forces who were responding to gunshots by suspected cattle rustlers in Kakamar sub-county.


“Our security forces responded to gunshots in Kakamar sub-county from suspected cattle rustlers, we laid ambushes in known crossing areas for the raiders, but unfortunately, Lochoto walked into the ambush and that how he got shot,” Mr Longole told Monitor in a telephone interview on March 11.


He stated that they were receiving social media reports alleging that the deceased was a leader of an opposition party. However, he emphasized that the incident was unrelated to politics, stating, "In a situation of an ambush and at the time of the shooting, anyone could be suspected of being the wrong person.


He mentioned that they had been receiving social media reports indicating that the deceased was affiliated with an opposition party. According to Mr Longole, the deceased was footing and wondered why he dared walk along such a deserted path in the night, even when he had heard gunshots in the area.
