On Monday, March 4, 2024, a symbolic moment unfolded as Okoth-Ochola officially handed over the reins of the police force to his deputy, Maj Gen Geoffrey Tumusiime Katsigazi. This ceremonial act marked the culmination of Okoth-Ochola's term as the head of the police force, a period during which he navigated various challenges and steered the institution through times of change.

Ochola, 65, who was appointed on the same date six years ago, had his term elapse with no hope of renewal as the head of Uganda Police, for which as per the law, he had to give in the office to his deputy who now takes over as the acting IGP until a substantial police head is appointed.
“Ochola handed over the office of the IGP to the deputy IGP who is the receiving officer ending the appointment of the IGP,” police spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga said while addressing journalists at Naguru police headquarters on Monday, March 04, shortly before Ochola delivered his handover speech.

“The outgoing IGP was very critical to the great success of the police force in the past six years where he led the police to higher levels of achievement with his talent and managerial skills,” added Mr Enanga.
During his address to the media and fellow officers, Mr. Ochola expressed that despite concluding his tenure as IGP, he is "embarking on the next chapter of his life with cherished memories of achievements.
