Record-Breaking Turnout: 2024 Kabaka Birthday Run Sees 120,000 Participants, Raises 2.4B for Buganda Kingdom

In a remarkable demonstration of solidarity and community support, the 2024 Kabaka Birthday Run achieved unprecedented success, drawing an astounding turnout of 120,000 participants. Their collective efforts resulted in a substantial contribution of 2.4 billion to the Buganda Kingdom. This monumental event not only shattered previous records but also highlighted the unwavering commitment of the community to celebrate and honor the Kabaka's birthday in a meaningful way.

According to Mengo in an interview with Daily Monitor, the 120,000 kits represent an increase over last year's program, when 100,000 kits were sold. Each kit sold for Shs20,000. Government authorities and agencies also made cash contributions.
"We are grateful to other partners who contributed donations, including Airtel Uganda, UNAIDS, and I&M Bank Uganda. We also received individual gifts," Mr Kazibwe stated, without going into detail about the donations.

For the first time, Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II was unable to participate in the Run. However, Buganda Kingdom Katikkiro (Prime Minister) Charles Peter Mayiga stated that the Kabaka visited Europe on March 21 for medical appointments. "Additional testing and a review of his current treatment were required.

Unfortunately, this coincided with the marathon date, thus he was unable to return on time. "He'll be back once his doctors finish their work," Mr. Mayiga stated. Mr. Mayiga stated on the eve of the Run that Kabaka's sister, Nnaalinya Lubuga Agnes Nabaloga, would be the event's official spokesperson.
