Todwong: MK Movement and Uganda Patriotic League Vital for President Museveni's Leadership Continuity
The MK Movement started in April 2022 as a spontaneous and diverse group of Ugandans that rallied around Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to appreciate his military service, and the service of his army comrades, to the Republic of Uganda.
Richard Todwong, the Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), has shed light on the strategies aimed at ensuring the continued leadership of President Museveni.
According to Todwong, the MK Movement, along with its newly established arms such as the Uganda Patriotic League, serve as crucial mechanisms in this endeavor. These entities, overseen by Museveni's son Muhoozi Kainerugaba, are strategically designed to support and uphold President Museveni's ongoing leadership.

Todwong further emphasized the significance of these initiatives, highlighting their role in maintaining stability and continuity within the NRM. Additionally, he mentioned the pressure group Mzee Tova Ku Main as another component contributing to the preservation of Museveni's leadership.
Todwong unveiled these revelations during a celebration of NRM Day in Serere District over the weekend. He also underscored President Museveni's candidacy as the NRM flag bearer for the 2026-2031 ballot period.

During the preceding 17 months, the MK Movement has consistently demonstrated its commitment by actively engaging in mobilizing Ugandans towards the crucial objectives of national unity, peace, and stability. Just last week, it underwent a significant transformation, reemerging as the Patriotic League of Uganda. This relaunch signifies a strategic shift, with the aim of laying the groundwork for the establishment of a political party poised to participate in future national elections.
